Transparent PP is a type of PP that has developed very rapidly in recent years. In 2013, the domestic consumption reached 700,000 tons, accounting for about 4% of the total PP. With the rapid development of the PP industry, the total apparent consumption of PP in my country reached 21 million tons in 2016, and the consumption of transparent PP has also increased to 1.2 million tons, becoming one of the fastest growing products in PP products. In the United States, almost all manufacturers that produce ordinary PP are producing transparent PP resins, and the development speed of transparent PP products is 7%-9% higher than that of ordinary PP products. In Japan, the annual output of transparent PP is more than 1000 k tons, accounting for 9% of the total consumption of PP products, and the market consumption continues to grow.

Why is transparent PP so popular in the market?

Polypropylene (PP) has excellent characteristics such as good mechanical properties, low relative density, heat resistance, chemical resistance, easy processing and molding, and high performance-price ratio. It has become the fastest growing variety and the most active in new product development among the five general synthetic resins.

However, since PP is a partially crystalline resin, under normal processing conditions, the crystallization rate is relatively slow, and it is easy to form larger spherulites. The easy crystallization of PP makes the gloss and transparency of its products worse, and the appearance lacks beauty, thus limiting its application. For this reason, in the past two decades, many Western countries have successively carried out research and development of high-transparent polypropylene materials and have successively achieved commercialization.

After PP is transparently modified, the spherulite structure is uniform and refined, and the transparency and glossiness are significantly improved. It not only inherits the advantages of ordinary PP, but also its crystallization temperature, Vicat softening point, rigidity and other mechanical properties are effectively improved, and it can even be compared with some other transparent resins such as PS, PET, PVC, PC The performance-price ratio is better than PET, PVC, PS, and PC. Therefore, since its introduction in the early 1980s, it has been rapidly developed around the world and has been widely used in many fields such as transparent packaging, medical equipment, and daily necessities.
